Employ Crawley has continued their run of success with their first jobs fair at Crawley Library.

Created by Crawley Borough Council in partnership with West Sussex County Council, Employ Crawley is a service that aims to support people looking for work or higher skilled, higher paid employment.

As part of their programme of work, the Employ Crawley Team invited job seekers to attend a jobs fair and meet with employers from local businesses across a range of industries to discuss live vacancies, take part in job interviews, receive assistance with job searching and attend workshops about getting back to work while on Universal Credit and interview techniques.

The event was attended by more than 200 people of all ages and 20 employers from local businesses including TSB Bank, Love Local Jobs, Sofitel, Elekta, Natwest, DHL, West Sussex County Council and many more, who offered attendees a wealth of information about their businesses, what they look for in potential employees and their current vacancies.

The workshops proved very popular with more than 20 attendees and by the end of the day, five out of 10 attendees who interviewed with Crawley catering company Alpha Flight, were offered positions, with a further interview being arranged for the next day with Sofitel.

Councillor Peter Smith, Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development, said: “I was delighted to see that our Employ Crawley jobs fair was so well supported.  We had many prestigious employers from Crawley businesses and a very good attendance of local people. This successful event will encourage us to continue to grow our Employment and Skills Programme for the betterment of Crawley residents and businesses.”

Continuing this, Richard Burrett, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “The event was a fantastic opportunity for those on the job hunt to discover a new career path, and with such a variety of employers who attended, I hope everyone found success.”

Speaking on behalf of TSB Bank, Crawley Branch Manager, Christopher Winfield said: “It was an absolutely fantastic day and really well organised with strong numbers through the door, rarely a moment went by without us speaking to highly qualified individuals about their next career move including those who were curious about our vacancy.

“It really helped to have detailed conversations about our vacancy and gave potential candidates the opportunity to ask questions before going through the process of applying, a definite time saver for all!

“This event definitely helped increase the number of applicants we received and we are looking forward to the next one!”

Talent Acquisition Partner at Elekta, John Campbell, said: “As a business, Elekta encourages working alongside local partners to fill any vacancies at our company. This event was the first one that we have attended quite some while and it was great to see so many people in attendance!”

Furthermore, Employ Crawley’s success has also continued elsewhere, with Queen Square’s newest addition – Arabica Coffee House, hiring four new team members on a work trial as a result of their partnership with Employ Crawley.
