A date has been set for the official opening of Queens Square!

The opening party, which also celebrates Crawley’s 70th birthday, will take place on Saturday 7 October from 12 noon and features music and entertainment for all ages. The civic opening ceremony will take place at 12.15pm.

This week a planning application has been received to bring a covered ice rink to Queens Square this winter. The ice rink, with real ice, is expected to open from mid-November until early January and it’s hoped this will attract many additional visitors over the Christmas and New Year period.

Since last month we’ve seen the new paving progress across almost the entire square, the lighting columns are now fully installed and the fountain is now all but finished. All of the ginkgo biloba trees have been planted and this week the granite planters are beginning to be filled with shrubs and perennials.

Over the next few weeks the centre of the square will be completed and new granite paving will be laid in the remaining untouched areas in front of Poundland and Decathlon. The fencing will then be taken down in the square and along Queensway and the whole area will be tidied up.
