More business rates to be kept local and pay for gigabit broadband

A successful bid to keep more business rates in West Sussex, supported by Crawley Borough Council, will enable residents and businesses to access gigabit broadband. The bid, to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, to keep 75 per cent of business rates collected in West Sussex – instead of the current 50 per cent – was one of 15 successful applications out of 35 nationwide.

Business as usual when Queensway regeneration gets underway

Less than a month to go until Queensway regeneration begins

Work to transform Queensway, The Pavement and Kingsgate will begin next month on 14 January 2019.

Blakedown Landscapes Ltd, a multi award-winning landscaping and civil engineering company, was appointed in September and will deliver this next phase of town centre regeneration, laying high quality paving, creating space for market provision, larger disabled parking bays and new planting along the northern edge of Memorial Gardens.

Kilnmead developer commits to Crawley

The developer of new town centre housing site is the latest company to sign up to Crawley Borough Council’s Developer and Partner Charter.

W. Stirland is developing the former Kilnmead car park in Northgate, consisting of five houses and 32 flats. The site will be named after Private John Brackpool, a Crawley soldier, who died in action in Afghanistan in 2009.

Work has begun onsite and is expected to be completed in autumn 2019.

New housing schemes move a step closer

Two major housing projects have been given a boost after Crawley Borough Council received final confirmation that it has been successful in applying for a government grant worth more than £6m.

The £6.4m grant from Homes England’s Housing Infrastructure Fund will help unlock another 620 new homes in the town.

Telford Place in the town centre will receive £2m to bring forward development while £4.4m will go towards infrastructure that enables new homes to be built in Forge Wood, Crawley’s newest neighbourhood.

Bringing wider investment in Crawley

Peacocks clothing store is the latest retailer to take up shop in Queens Square, bringing more jobs and investment into the town centre.

The new store, located opposite Costa Coffee was officially opened on Thursday (15 November) by the Mayor of Crawley and Peacocks Regional Manager, Les McLean.

Manor Royal Gateway 1 (Hazelwick Flyover) Roadworks

Improvement works on the Hazelwick Flyover and Gatwick Road in Manor Royal are due to begin next week (19 November).

Expected to last around 8 weeks, the works will make this important entrance to Manor Royal more welcoming and attractive to visitors by creating a better sense of arrival.

The scheme is being delivered by the Manor Royal Busines District as part of the Crawley Growth Programme.

Eastern and Station Gateway proposals - response to consultation

Earlier this year, we asked for your feedback on exciting proposals for the £8.3million Crawley Eastern Gateway and £5.3million Station Gateway projects.

The schemes are part of the £60million Crawley Growth Programme which will ‘unlock’ jobs, business space and home building in the town through major infrastructure improvements.

The two “Gateway” projects aim to improve pedestrian, cycling and bus access and facilities and create better connectivity between the railway and bus stations.

Cheals Roundabout - highway improvement works from October 2018

Breheny Civil Engineering on behalf Crest Nicholson are to commence highway improvement works on the Cheals Roundabout on 22nd October 2018 with works due for completion end of May / early June 2019. The purpose of these works is to increase the capacity of the roundabout to deal with the anticipated traffic flow increases from the residential development at Kilnwood Vale.
