Multi-million pound Crawley Infrastructure Improvement Schemes

Exciting proposals for the £8.3million Crawley Eastern Gateway and £5.3million Station Gateway projects go on display soon in a series of public exhibitions.

The schemes are part of the £60million Crawley Growth Programme which will ‘unlock’ jobs, business space and home building in the town through major infrastructure improvements.

The two “Gateway” projects aim to improve pedestrian, cycling and bus access and facilities and create better connectivity between the railway and bus stations.

£2.2m Queensway regeneration project moves to next stage

Major improvements to Queensway and The Pavement have moved a step closer with contractors now able to bid for the works.

The £2.2m scheme, which will extend Queens Square’s improvements along Queensway and The Pavement, led by Crawley Borough Council is funded by Crawley Borough Council, West Sussex County Council, and the Local Growth Fund through Coast to Capital Enterprise Partnership as part of the Crawley Growth Programme.

STEMfest Crawley is coming to Memorial Gardens - 12 May 2018

Fun and games will rub shoulders with serious science when STEM in the Park returns to Crawley later this month.

The free event, in the Memorial Gardens on Saturday, 12 May, is part of the seventh annual Crawley STEMfest and will showcase careers and apprenticeships in science, technology, engineering and science (STEM) in a range of fun and hands-on activities aimed at young people and their parents.

School Students Celebrate Success at Awards Ceremony

The achievements of 70 students from Crawley and Gatwick schools were commended at an awards ceremony on Friday, April 27 at the Hilton London Gatwick Airport.

The event was the finale to the Be the Change programme, an initiative to boost the aspirations and job prospects of young people aged between 13 and 14. Over the last six months the students have been taking part in a series of activities designed to improve hope, happiness, confidence, relationships, to change negative behaviour and to introduce them to career opportunities.

Crawley STEMfest set to launch

An evening of science and comedy will officially launch the seventh annual Crawley STEMfest, the biggest and most exciting STEM festival of the year for young people in the region.

The launch event will take place at the new Elekta Cornerstone building on 26 April and will feature award-winning comedy writer Helen Keen, from Radio 4’s Uncaged Monkeys, accompanied by Antony Yates, keynote speaker for the afternoon and Head of Engineering at Gatwick Airport who are the headline sponsor for STEMfest 2018.

Cabinet agrees Three Bridges Station scheme next steps

 

Plans to progress to the next stage of the Three Bridges Improvement Scheme have been approved.

Crawley Borough Council’s Cabinet agreed to recommendations allowing the progression of the scheme at its meeting on Wednesday (21 March).

Following an extensive programme of engagement with key stakeholders and residents, the council will lead the delivery of the scheme’s detailed design, which will take account of feedback highlighted by residents at the information sessions.

New signage for the town centre

New wayfinding signs have been installed in Queens Square, with more to be rolled out across the town centre in the coming weeks. It follows an extensive consultation period with residents, businesses and other key stakeholders, including the Town Centre Partnership.

Crawley Borough Council, has installed wayfinding signs to increase the visibility of key town centre areas and improve connectivity to out of town attractions for both visitors and residents.

Bandstand construction gets underway

The town’s Victorian bandstand is one step closer to being installed in its new home in Memorial Gardens with the construction of the foundation for the bandstand to rest on almost completed.

Crawley Borough Council has been working with specialist Leander Architecture to refurbish and restore the bandstand after it was moved from Queens Square to make way for the regeneration works in 2016.

Created by Crawley Borough Council in partnership with West Sussex County Council, Employ Crawley is a service that aims to support people looking for work or higher skilled, higher paid employment.
