Public art restoration

Work will soon be underway to restore The Golden Tree, the art sculpture which was formerly situated on the High Street.

The sculpture was damaged and had to be removed for repair and restoration in 2017. Now with the replacement materials on order, and due to arrive during the summer, the initial restoration stages can be completed both on site and in the artist’s workshop.

Queens Square tree to be replaced

One of Queens Square’s Ginkgo Biloba trees is to be replaced after it was vandalised last week. The tree, currently situated outside Poundland was found to have its bark stripped, significantly damaging its health.

Council officers investigated to establish whether the tree could be saved, however it became clear that it would not recover and the decision was made to replace it. The new tree will be planted in autumn to ensure that it has the best chance of thriving.

Queens Square regeneration commended at awards

Queens Square has been commended at the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation Awards for ‘creating better places’.

The £3.2m regeneration project was the only scheme from outside of London on the shortlist.

The awards celebrate the highways and transportation industry, rewarding the outstanding accomplishments of those within the sector and promoting their expertise as best practise to a wider audience.

Third successful Investor Tour takes place

An enthusiastic group of delegates spent a day touring Crawley and learning about the town’s businesses and development opportunities for investors.

This was Crawley Borough Council’s third investor tour and was oversubscribed by investors keen to find out more about the town. The event included a walkthrough and coach-ride with tour guides highlighting the diverse and successful business mix, while showcasing opportunities for inward investment.

Planned tree removals to take place in town centre

Four trees will be removed from Memorial Gardens as part of safety and maintenance works.

A large, diseased oak tree on the South West corner of the gardens will be removed, along with a diseased lime tree inside the play area and a large diseased willow tree within the main gardens. This tree will be replaced in 2020.

The refurbishment of Memorial Gardens play area will begin later this year, providing an exciting, all new town centre Play facility for young residents and visitors.
