Decathlon coming to Crawley

Europe’s largest sports retailer is set to open its first Crawley store in Queens Square in the summer.

Decathlon, a family owned business which opened its first store in Lille, France, in 1976, will be taking over the former Body Shop and adjacent units in June.

The store, which is growing in the UK and Asia but already a ‘go to’ brand in France and Spain, offers high quality Decathlon brand products for 70 sports over two floors.

Improving opportunities for local people

An ambitious plan to help Crawley people to access better quality job opportunities within the town has been launched.

The plan aims to address skills gaps in the local workforce through four main projects – a Town Centre Skills Academy, Gatwick Skills Laboratory, Crawley Young Workers Scheme and Employ Crawley.

A planning application for 90 flats on a car park at Central Sussex College has been submitted to Crawley Borough Council.

Arcus PDC has applied for permission to build a part eight and part six storey building on the site on Northgate Avenue.

Market moves to The Broadway and Haslett Avenue West

The town’s Friday and Saturday markets have moved to The Broadway and Haslett Avenue West.

The Broadway and Haslett Avenue West was identified in a recent analysis by the Retail Study Group as one of the best town centre spots for a market. Crawley Borough Council had to delay the move from its original High Street location because Haslett Avenue West did not have permission for street trading.

Plans for station Gateway come forward

Exciting proposals to redevelop public space around Crawley railway and bus stations are being developed and Crawley Borough Council wants to know what people think of the plans.

The Arora Group are putting forward proposals to regenerate the area around Crawley railway station (known as Station Gateway), Station Way and Friary Way bus station. They aim to work together with Crawley Borough Council, West Sussex County Council and other stakeholders to regenerate this key part of the town centre, creating an inviting place for residents, visitors and business.

£3.2m Queens Square project moves to next stage

Major improvements to Queens Square have moved a step closer with contractors now able to bid for the works.

A plan to demolish a derelict large town centre building and replace it with retail space and 78 homes over six storeys has been approved by Crawley Borough Council.

Inspired Asset Management’s application to tear down 15-29 The Broadway and build flats and new shops was approved by the council's Development Control Committee on 4 January.
