What’s been happening?

Construction continues according to the plans with work on the northern alleyway towards Queens Square well underway. Paving is now being laid directly in front of The Pavilion building. Re-paving is currently underway outside Kokoro and will move north across The Gym, Ann Summers and MET-Rx entrances shortly.

Small business grant for home grown aviation company

A company based in Basepoint Business Centre in Manor Royal is the first to receive a small business grant from Crawley Borough Council.

Last year, the council received funding from West Sussex Pooled Business Rates to set up a Small Business Grant Scheme for Crawley based businesses. After a successful application aviation software company Avtura, were awarded the first grant of £2,000.

Avtura is an established and innovative provider of software management solutions and consultancy for ground handling operations.

Queens Square update – 23 February 2017

What’s been happening? The hole for the water feature’s plant room has been filled back in and the concrete base of the water fountain has been poured. Drainage and services installation have begun at the western end of the square in front of the pavilion.

Crawley’s economy goes from strength to strength

Crawley has the highest employment rate and third highest wages in the UK, according to an influential report.

The Centre for Cities 2017 report, which compares economic statistics across 63 cities and large towns in the UK, underlines the town’s status as a great place to do business.

Crawley has excellent transport links and infrastructure, a skilled workforce, great connectivity and large economically-active areas like the Manor Royal Business District and Gatwick Airport – all reasons why it’s a great place to do business.

Have your say on the next stage of town centre regeneration

Proposals to extend Queens Square regeneration work along Queensway, The Pavement and Kingsgate are available to view and Crawley Borough Council wants to know what you think.

The council and its partners are hoping to continue the high-quality improvements underway in Queens Square along these main connector streets. And, although the design should remain cohesive with the square, the council is keen to hear views on various elements of the project.

Major town centre redevelopment moves a step closer

Plans for 250 homes, a new Town Hall and offices in the town centre are set to move a step closer in February.

The proposed major redevelopment at the eastern end of The Boulevard would see the current Town Hall and two-storey car park demolished.

In their place would be around 250 homes in three blocks, a new Town Hall over four floors with five floors of grade A commercial offices above, a public square, public realm improvements, commercial units and the infrastructure for a district heating network.

What’s been happening? The site closed down over Christmas and New Year to allow the town centre a break from construction activities at this busy time of year.

First district deal in West Sussex aims to drive economic growth

Two West Sussex councils have signed an agreement to work together on delivering key strategic projects.

West Sussex County Council and Crawley Borough Council have signed a new district deal to increase joint collaborative working between the two councils.

The Crawley Growth Deal identifies a number of key projects which feature in the Crawley Place Plan, which was endorsed by both authorities earlier in the year.

Queens Square update – 13 December 2016

What’s been happening?

All the granite needed to pave the North and South alleyways has been delivered and work to lay it began on 5 December.

The granite is currently being laid in the southern alleyway and contractors, Blakedown Landscapes Ltd, are working their way through the southern alleyway towards Queens Square.
