Queensway & The Pavement regeneration plans submitted

Plans to regenerate Queensway, Kingsgate and The Pavement, continuing the high quality improvements in Queens Square, have been submitted.

The proposals, which mark the second phase of town centre regeneration, run from the eastern edge of Queens Square along Queensway to the College Road junction, including part of the boundary to Memorial Gardens, and the length of The Pavement.

The plans, which would significantly improve the three main connector streets and it’s hoped would act as a catalyst for wider regeneration and investment, provide:

Have your say on crowdfunding investment projects

Crawley Borough Council wants to hear what residents have to say on a new community investment programme, including the use of crowdfunding.

The council is proposing the use of a new Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) that collects funds from qualifying developments to finance new investment around the town.

Crawley BC joins Greater Brighton Economic Board

Crawley Borough Council has accepted an invitation to join the Greater Brighton Economic Board.

The council agreed to join the board, whose purpose is to bring about sustainable economic development and growth across Greater Brighton (the City Region) at the meeting of the Full Council last night (Wednesday 18 October).

The board, which was founded in April 2014 as part of the Greater Brighton City region’s City Deal with Government, has also invited Gatwick Airport Limited to join the board.

Further Article 4 Direction at Manor Royal

On 16 October 2017, Crawley Borough Council confirmed the making a further Article 4 Direction at Manor Royal.

The confirmed Direction removes a temporary permitted development right that would otherwise allow the change of use of buildings from light industrial (B1c) to residential use (C3) without the requirement to obtain planning permission.

The Direction has been confirmed following a 12 month notification period and consideration of feedback submitted to the council during a three-month consultation period.

Helping unlock £60m investment in Crawley

Crawley Borough Council has helped to unlock £60.4m investment in infrastructure and regeneration to support new homes, jobs and business space.

The council’s Cabinet agreed to allocate £2.8m towards the Crawley Growth Programme at its meeting on Wednesday (4 October), following Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership’s award of £14.64m to the programme.

Regeneration of Queens Square completed

The regeneration of Queens Square has been completed – on time and on budget.

The fencing has been taken down today (3 October) so visitors to the town centre can now take advantage of the much-improved public square. The improvements, which took 12 months to complete, has encouraged new businesses to open in the square and for existing retailers and property owners to improve the appearance of their buildings. The new square includes high quality paving, new and improved lighting, new seating, new street furniture, new planting and a fountain.

Queens Square re-opening party

Queens Square will reopen shortly – and we’re having a party to celebrate!

Everyone’s welcome to join in the fun from 12 noon on Saturday 7 October.

This family-friendly celebratory event will include professional singing, dancing, music from a concert band, street performers, face painting, balloon art and much more.

Metrobus will be bringing its special 70th birthday bus along, Queens Square shops will be getting involved and we’ll be switching on the fountains for the first time since work is completed too!
